Joe Wilson
Lifted restrictions on stem cell research
Passed several consumer protection acts (FERA, Helping Families Save Their Homes Act, CARD, Family Smoking Protection & Tobacco Control Act, etc)
Increased restrictions on federal lobbyists
He also did several other things that you will either agree or disagree with based on your political ideals (primarily the Recovery and Reinvestment Act). I wont go into those, but I refuse to believe the things I listed above aren't widely approved by the general public.

in the big scheme of things those are like drops of water in the ocean.
as for the consumer protection acts are these ones he wrote? ones that he really pushed and pulled through the senate and house? or are they ones that merely came across his desk and he said o looks like a good idea and signed? cuz if they are i dont really see how you can call those his accomplishments.
the lifting of stem cell research though is a valid one
That's what's known as missing the point. The House of Representatives operates under a set of rules, one of which is that no one interrupts someone who is speaking, another of which is that the Speaker of the House must recognize a person before he/she can speak, and another of which is that respect to others in the chamber is given at all times, whether they're speaking or not. Those rules do not suddenly disappear just because the president is speaking, and certainly not because some poll says he's not popular. The House (and the Senate) are probably the last bastions of politeness and civility (each side of Congress has a parliamentarian, whose job is to enforce the chambers' rules), and letting Mr. You Lie get away with it would make him and them no better than the bloviating talk-show hosts whose primary attributes are a big mouth and an ego to match it. If Joe Wilson wants to have a news conference on the Capitol steps, in his office, or back in his home district, and call the president a liar in those venues, let him...but he needs to hold his tongue while he's in the House chamber.
If I had an outburst like this towards one of my superiors at work, I'd be fired on the spot regardless if I apologized or not. I really don't see why this should be any different.
If you have this type of reaction to something, you are obviously reacting with emotions rather than clear thoughts. Voicing your opinion should be done in a completely civil environment. That fact that he says he won't be muzzled is pretty clear sign that he should be removed from his position.

I dont understand how people can think Wilson is some sort of courageous hero when he made a damn fool of himself blurting out "you lie" when any half-witted individual KNOWS that what Obama was saying at the moment was the TRUTH. If you dont support a public option for health care, that's fine, you have the right not to. If you want to have intelligent debate whether or not it's a good idea, that's even better. But to show everybody on a national stage that you believe in the BS that can be found in the spam folder in your email, go shoot yourself.

It's not even a matter of whether you're for or against him. I happen to think ALL politicians are crooks, but that's another discussion. The issue is simple regard and politeness toward someone who is speaking. Interrupting someone else is impolite...period.
And yes, House rules aside, enough is enough already. He apologized, the president accepted it...let's move on. There are far more important issues to deal with.
