took my wife, I did the push and pull like you said, it's not that hard.

I checked out a S&W .40 as well, it was nice. But I think I liked the G23 more.

But the Ruger GP100 was still really nice and has the option of the 2 types of bullets. Wife liked them both.

What would do you carry?

ruger gp100 is big.

i'd carry the 23. that's because i carry a 19 (same size, just 9mm instead of .40)

i also carry a s&w 642. it's a 5 shot .38 but it's pocket sized. that one is always with me.

For protection against bears - run away. Or at least have 454 in a handgun or .45-70 in a lever action rifle.

I'm going to have to check out some other local gun shops. $600 is more than I want to spend on my first gun. Through some other suggestions, I'm leaning more towards the Ruger GP100 again.

Although the Glock... well it's a Glock, it's very nice, easy, probably reliable, and tons of accessories and it's well known and understood.

The GP100 is an old police service gun, so it's well known too... but probably not as much now as it was in the 1970's.

you should be able to find a 23 for less than 600.

if you don't mind a 22 over a 23...

those look like much better prices than I was looking at in Gander Mtn.

I'd have to have that shipped to a local FFL dealer though... I don't know of any. I'll have to try and find some and visit them.

Thanks for the links. Nice to know there are options.

if they sell guns, they have an ffl. some shops wont do it. pawn shops usually will not have a problem and most times charge less for the transfer than gun shops do.

call around any pawn and gun shops and ask if they do ffl transfers and what their fees are. even if it's something crazy like $50, you are still saving about ~200 over gander mtn after tax.
