You can't envy me then, I don't have a home right now

I have some land and a plan, but no home.

I will have a get together for a house warming, but I don't think it will be the party that you would expect. Good times yes, all out party, nope.

Excavation started yesterday, but within 20 minutes he hit the foundation of a old house that was on the property, and called it a day.

This was something that was disclosed before and was not a problem, and he won't be back on site till Thursday.

Oh well, at least it has started, I will take pics when I am back down at the property later.

Yeah, not real happy, but what can you do.

Found a place about 1/4 mile away to take the fill to, so everything should be a go tomorrow, maybe set the walls on Saturday....

Got the steel beams ordered. Kev, can you tell me if replacing a W8x24 on a 12' span with a W10x26 on an 18' span is acceptable?? I know I can do it with a W10x30, but I don't have the specs on a W10x26

:edit:

nm, found the span tables I was looking for, they will work fine.

W10"x26lbx36' = $553.28 each

More good news, ran into an old basement filled with crap to the brim, including water. Underneath all of it was an old well that will need to be concreted up before walls go in. Excavator won't be back till tomorrow morning.

Good news all around....

We might have to dig that deep to get out all of the crap and old stuff, let alone the well.

I am actually fairly calm about it, excavation is a huge thing because it has a lot of unknowns, but it should not hake 5-6 days to dig the basement, that is more of what I am mad about than anything else.

So was there a house on this property that you tore down or was this like "SURPRISE there's a house that was previously here that you didn't know about because it was either burned or torn down before you got here."

I never knew all of this went into building a house. I just though they dug a huge hole, ran some pipes, poured some concreate molded it and BAM you have a house.
