But I would argue against it being "free fuel" as John says, aside from a select few people that have access to mass quantities of that stuff. I have no idea where I'd get 15 gallons of used veggie oil on a weekly basis.

Restaurants have oil vats in the back alley...industrial sizes...500 gallons +...Hot summer day roll up with a hose, connect, drain, fill, bounce

Yeah. That's totally practical and not to mention completely legal.

WVO can be had for free around here, but the problem is there just isn't much of it to go around. Boulder is hippie central and we have tons of aging hippies in rusted old mercedes, vw, toyotas etc pilfering oil wherever they can find it h: If you could handle driving to Longmont to fill up, that would be one solution.

yeah i wouldnt syphon it or anything but there is usually a remove/disposal fee and to avoid paying that, some places will just give the oil away. it isnt worth anything to them.

Yeah but the second they know there is the slightest demand, they'll charge for it.

It is also a myth that you can just pull up anywhere and dump it in your tank. Unless you have a supply of really pure stuff you have to filter and dewater it. this takes capital, space time, and electricity.

as does anything but the filtration equipment pays for itself. anything that will save you money is going to cost you money at some point...

and cars/trucks that run on diesel have fuel/water seperators. there is water is diesel fuel too ... so it isnt like wvo is so different from standard pump diesel.

right petrol diesel contains very small amounts of water that can basically be "filtered" out. WVO can contain a significant mass of water that has to taken out be by evaporation, separation or vacuum. not to mention chucks of fries and mcnuggets, but filtering is not too hard

Im not knocking it, if I didn't have a bike that got like good milage I would probably be looking for something to convert to WVO. If you have the space and are willing to put in the work to get it set up its a brilliant system.

Wel you can actually it just means your filter on the WVO system will have to be changed much sooner as compared to if you filter it before putting it into the tank. Our systems have a pretty damn good filter that will remove the water efficiently.

As for clearing the oil the process as I remember is to heat the oil to 125 degrees for 18-24 hours then pour through a filter then put it into your wvo tank or holding tank.

As far as pulling up and pumping the grease vats...exactly why wouldn't it be legal to do RB? If I pull up to McD's or Safeway and ask them if I can pump their vats most if not all will say go ahead for no charge at all. It's not as though there is any law saying you can't do that and if so why don't you be so kind as to point it out to me.
