Yeah um, I'm not looking to be your standard borough cop. If I wanted to do that I'd just go to community college.

What kind of cop do you want to be? I must have missed it if you said already

Criminal Investigator. Over the next 5 years I'll be pursuing my Associates and Bachelors. Once I achieve my AA I want to get into my field and work as well as pursue my Bachelors (online, most likely). That will allow me to move up in my field. If I so desired I could pursue my Masters, but first I want to be working on my BA before I even seriously think about a MA.

Like I said above, a goal I set for myself is the FBI, but I think realistically I'd like to be working behind the scenes, making things happen.

Am I mistaken in believing everyone starts out as a beat cop? I thought thats how it was?

Thats in line with what I was going to reply with. There isn't an agency in the bay area that starts out at less than 60k and thats without OT.

You're right. Unless you go with an SO in which case you'll start in the jail more than likely. You don't go straight to being an investigator. Even with college.

I'd advise you to go back to your old job. An agency will like your security work on there but they'll like your college experience more. You dont need that security gig to get you in. Go to school and pull good grades and you'll be fine

Try and shadow or do some real cop work for experience, rent-a-cop doesn't show much of LE.

I would say that the security detail you are on wouldn't benefit you any better resume-wise than working for a ear-mold company.

my vote goes to microsonic... regular schedule, predictable time off, easy commute... besides, being a rent-a-cop just sounds really shitty to me. :dunno:

At the local level, yes. At the federal level, you can start out as a CI.
