my mb was the same way when XP and Vista were installed. Fortunately I only needed 1 of the 2 ethernet ports so it wasn't a big deal. Somehow when I upgraded to windows 7 the problem fixed itself. I'm guessing there was a driver conflict somewhere.

returning a mobo is the shittiest thing ever after you just assembled a computer. Ugh, I hate it. You have to take everything back out and put it all back in! This is especially sucky if you had to tie up all your wires.

not a driver conflict. again the port works fine after a really really cold boot. if it was a driver conflict, it shouldn't work from the initial boot up.

so it's some sort of hardware that is causing the problem.

i also tried plugging a ethernet card into a pcie x1 port and that works fine.

that and the bios doesn't seem to be very stable. if i go into a certain menu it freezes nearly instantaneously

not a big deal, maybe takes 10mins. all the cables are routed behind the motherboard tray so it wont cost me much time at all.

still sucks to have a bad port of course.

their only 6 core cpu system starts at 5K.

no thanks and even macs suffer hardware failures, not like they're any better in that regard, now that they are using off the shelf stuff.
