not a driver conflict. again the port works fine after a really really cold boot. if it was a driver conflict, it shouldn't work from the initial boot up.
so it's some sort of hardware that is causing the problem.
i also tried plugging a ethernet card into a pcie x1 port and that works fine.
that and the bios doesn't seem to be very stable. if i go into a certain menu it freezes nearly instantaneously

returning a mobo is the shittiest thing ever after you just assembled a computer. Ugh, I hate it. You have to take everything back out and put it all back in! This is especially sucky if you had to tie up all your wires.
not a big deal, maybe takes 10mins. all the cables are routed behind the motherboard tray so it wont cost me much time at all.
still sucks to have a bad port of course.
