Best projector...
I love mine, the picture is awesome, but make sure you have a dark room.

it is the first sub-1000 dollar 720p projector on the market. Hopefully a precursor of things to come

I guess I'll give it one last shot.... I would already have the HD70 because of its value at its price point but I am in an apartment without a light controlled room.
The infocus SP4805, albiet a very nice projector, is ED. (Enhanced definition) @ 854 x 480 resolution. Yes, it will take a 1080i signal IN but it will OUTPUT it at 480p, the aforementioned 854x480. In other words, downsample it to its native resolution.
The projector that I am suggestion on the otherhand, is native HD @ 1280x720.
It will take a 1080p/60, 1080i, 720p, 576p, 576i, 480p signal and output it at 1280x720.
That is 921,600 pixels compared to 409,920 pixels of the infocus.
I'm sure you have seen a progressive scan DVD player play at 480p and then have seen a channel like ABC-HD and watched LOST. The difference is striking.
To me, getting the optima is a no brainer. Like Kavikgold said, head over to AVSForums, and take a look in their under 3K projector section. It is definitely the one that everyone is talking about.

Obviously you think I am a AV retard, which I am not.
I build and install high end audio/video solutions for people, and I can assure you, you must have the wrong specs on the SP4805, because it's operating resolution is at 1280x720 and will accept both EDTV and HDTV inputs.
I have seen both of these projectors in action, in light controlled rooms (I have one in my theater) and there is no comparison between the two. The blacks on the incfocus are much better than the 70, and the light sensitivity is better also.
It may be the projector that everyone is talking about, but if you are ever see them side by side, I think you will decide differently.
Both projectors are good, but personal preference I like the infocus much better.
Also, the guys at AVS will tell you to spend 10 grand on a sound system, and you can get quality that is better than those bloated brands for much less than that.
John, if you have a place close to where you can sample projectors, this is the best option by far, because you will get something that suits you best, not people on a web board.

Whatever man. I don't think you are an AV retard, but YOU clearly have the wrong specs on the SP4805. It is just not 720p. I mean, it just isn't. Sorry.
http://www.projectorcentral.com/info...nplay_4805.htm
Well it lists it as 480p as well as every other site I have ever seen. It will downsample 1080i and 720p to 480 lines of resolution not 720. I never said it woudn't ACCEPT them, it just won't OUTPUT them.
Could you be mistaking it for another projector?
meh, avsforums has a under 3K, over 3K and over 20K section. I would go as far as to make a blanket statement that the people posting in the under 3K section would be telling you to buy a 10K projector.
Additionally, I have found that several posters at AVSForum are professional calibrators and are able to run tests on projectors and TV's to pinpoint difference between models that the human eye (looking at them side by side) would never catch.
Th SP4805 is a nice enhanced def projector.
If you are watching movies in DVD format and do not have a high def gaming system, buy it.
If you have an upconverting dvd player and or a blu-ray/HD-DVD drive and an xbox360 or a ps3, get the HD70.
