Default Best projector...

under $1k

Not LCD, not projection screen tv, not plasma and not a tube tv...I don't want to hear about any of those because for the price none of them impress me. I have decided I want a projector for my reasons and no argument will change it.

OK now thats out of the way... anyone have any experience with them and either any models or features I should be concerned with like SLP vs DLP etc?

We have a DLP one at work. it's only 480P. I would recommend against a 480P one having used it to watc the lord of the ring series

also get a good screen. it makes a noticible difference. the one we have at work is made by BenQ

the model we have is the model below this model: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...=1&topnav=&s=1

the 1080p DLP ones are very nice. they are quite pricey though. let me look at the one we have here at work.

My coworker has an insane projector in his home theatre. He's got a 11-12 ft screen and a room dedicated to it. I don't know a lot about it but I know its DLP and does 1080p.

He custom built seat risers for 3 rows of matching Lay-Z Boy recliners/seats, floor lighting, etc. So bad ass!

Why exactly would gaming change the life span of the bulb? Or is it simply because the high amount of hours it was used?

I've been using the infocus 4805 for about 2 years now, the dlp chip and color wheels are pretty good, absolutely no weird effects that people speak of. I prefer the colors over many cheaper lcd tvs out there.

Obviously, as you probably should know, any consumer based projector needs a medium-dark room. They wash out during the daytime way too easy.

If you're going to need to use it during the day, then I think you're going to pay a lot more for one. If you know that you'll be using it in very dark conditions, it could save you a lot.
