the same old cliches apply, if it's too good to be true, it probably is.. if that were actually the case, everyone would be lining up for the job... etc. hell, who needs a college degree when you can make $70k/yr peddling cellphones?

i'm sure there are exceptions, but seriously, do you think your avg. kid working at the verizon store in the mall is pulling in $40k? i don't.

anyway, not trying to crap all over your thread, just speaking from my experience.
That was my point. My buddy who worked at Cingular was told he'd be making upwards of $45,000 a year and only cleared barely $20,000. But whatever.

I think it all depends on the product. If you can sell, you have a much better chance of making money when selling high volume items such as cell phones versus low volume items. If you can sell, retail is a good spot because you can get the volume up plus the customers come to you. I believe that the potential is there (depending on the commission structure) but you probably have to be constantly be selling at high volume.

AF made me think of something else..

any place that gives you a projected commission amount would be suspect to me. what i would expect in sales would be to be given a quota and told, “meet it, or get out”. what they’re doing when they give you a projected commission is they’re trying to sell you the job. keep that in mind.

The JD Power & Associates report that came out in September 05 says it was T-Mobile overall.

I'm speaking from my personal consumer experience with my views on both providers.

Exactly. That's how they get people to keep working jobs like that. Dangling a fantastical carrot, and spreading rumors.... It's how several of my friends, and even my brother, keep getting drawn into those jobs, and get worked to the bone trying to reach those goals...

I think it's because VZW wants to motivate their sales reps to sell. They aren't going to sell much if they have some clueless teenagers making $10/hr. They are obviously looking for the most qualified candidates and they are paying their salespeople proportionately to the volume they move.

And for the record, I'm a salary/commission paid employee at my day job. I was told that the average pay for my position would be 40k in the first year and 50k average of all the employees and I already passed both of those marks in less than a year. And no, you don't need a college degree to get rich. The richest man in the world doesn't even have a degree.
