Not saying you're not being truthful, I think he's embellishing. My buddy does sales for Cingular and makes like $20K a year.

I'm the friend that hooked him up. I previously worked for cingular, made roughly 36K last year. Sidebar: cingular sucks, don't recommend working for them.
That said, the average verizon rep is making around 50. When I was at cingular, most of my friends were having trouble making their rent payments; at vzw, most of my friends are all happy and chipper about being able to write off the interest from buying their houses. The top rep in my zone(out of about 8 stores) made 98K last year...both PT reps in my store cleared 50. The average commission check around here before taxes is roughly 1900-2400. Monthly.
And cingular's coverage doesn't compare, customer service sucks(ever had a phone thrown at your head because it's so bad? I have.), phones are more expensive...speaking from experience, fuck cingular.
And just in case I didn't piss off enough people...I drive a DSM
