Toyota will import 100,000 Prius hybrid cars to the United States in 2005, double the amount it expects to sell this year, the automaker said Thursday.
Through the first eight months of this year, Prius sales totaled 31,406 units, a Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. spokesman said. The 2005 allocation is equal to the total number of Prius cars sold in the United States since it was introduced to the market in June 2000.
The greater supply for the U.S. market is possible because Toyota Motor Corp. is boosting Prius production by 50 percent to 15,000 units per month in Japan. The extra production will come from an existing Toyota assembly plant in Japan, but the automaker has not disclosed which plant it will use.
In addition to a greater allocation of Prius sedans, Toyota will introduce hybrid powertrain versions of the Toyota Highlander and Lexus RX330 (RX400h) sport wagons to the U.S. market early next year.

I worked for Toyota too, at a dealer placing those orders you talk about so much. Toyota doesn't even take orders on Priuses. Dealers write up a buyer's order and request a car with a particular option package. Toyota builds the car at some point and ships it to the dealer. Aside from a refundable $500 deposit, no money changes hands until the car is delivered to the customer. The car isn't counted as sold until delivery.
Besides, your point is moot if you're talking about 2003. Because for the first 8 months of 2004, Toyota sold (i.e. the car was paid for by and delivered to a customer) 31,406 Priuses.

Yeah let it go, like the VTEC thread.
