Him yelling: "Do you know the law? I know the law because I'm a police officer, and you better go put the baffles back into that exhaust!"
Me: "But sir, it's a canister style exhaust and..."
Him yelling to make people on the sidewalk stop and watch "ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME? YOU HAD BETTER GO AND PUT THE BAFFLES BACK INTO YOUR MUFFLER!"
Me: "Uhh... yes sir..."
Him: "Good... now that you're listening to me, I wont give you a ticket for your illegal exhaust. You better fix it before I see you again"
*I decided to bite my tongue for the rest of the proceedings*
I had GReddy fax me up the sound test sheet the next day... I don't stand for stuff like that.
where can i get these sound verification results? and can i wave em in the cops face just in case?

now i can see if maybe you're driving a old beatup piece of shit down hollywood blvd with half the muffler hanging off, but pulling over a honda civic because you think his exhaust is too loud, that's bullshit. specially when the real reason is just to fuc'k with him.
not cool.

How do you (the public) expect that to happen without doing police work? And how do you expect to do police work without stopping people?
You know, the majority of violent felons and kidnappers that are arrested are stopped for minor traffic violations just because the officer wanted to investigate it further?
If you're not doing anything illegal, or don't have anything illegal on your car, you wont get pulled over; it's that simple. And yes, reasonable suspicion is enough to pull you over. We're not there to prove your guilty or innocent, we're there to ticket/arrest those whom we think have a high possibility (reasonable suspicion, or probable cause) that they MIGHT be guilty; and then we let the court figure it out afterwords.
I just disagree with you that it's 1) entrapment (look up the definition of entrapment, it doesnt even remotely fit) and that 2) pretextual stops are wrong. Pretextual stops are how you PREVENT crime and investigate "hunches." Nothing wrong with them.

You see, the thing is, with an import we're likely to find MULTIPLE violations and possibly some stolen equiptment, where as with a domestic it's usually just exhaust.
FYI: Almost all of the exhaust-tickets can be challenged in court and it's the prosecuters (the courts) duty to proove that your vehicle's exhaust is over a certain dB limit. Long story short, they wont do that and they'll be forced to throw it out.
It's not wrong for the Officer to ticket you for it, because he has reasonable suspicion to believe that it is in fact louder than it should be, but that doesnt' mean you're automatically actually GUILTY and owe the fine.
The real reason for an exhaust-pullover is merely to look for OTHER things of higher value. Perhaps stolen stuff, or a suspended license, or drugs, or whatever else we think you may have. It's what we call a precurser, or in laymans terms: A reason to pull you over and further investigate.
Make sense now?
Will: I know, I wish they pulled over more Harley's too. The problem is, most Cops are Harley Riders, so they tend to go on their merry way.

Try that in Suffolk or Nassau County NY. Court goes like this. Officer testifies, you testify, the judge finds you guilty no matter what and you pay a fine get points whatever. I had a cop testify under oath that she followed me and clocked my speed for 1.5 miles on a road that is less than half a mile long and the judge still believed her. I got a transcript and appealed to the state and they declined my appeal. The only way to fight anything is to get a lawyer to defend you. The judges all play golf with the lawyers so usually you get off. Its all a crock of sh1t. Fortunately, 90% of the time the cop doesn't show up if you plead not guilty and the ticket gets dismissed. Unless of course you got a DWI or no insurance. Then they always show up. The cop only showed up for my BS speeding ticket because she had to testify against some other loser that day that got aggravated unlicensed and a DWI. I took the BS ticket I did get with a grain of salt because I had like 30 others dismissed where I really was guilty.

I mean, be realistic. The law is blind, but Police Officers aren't. It's not against the law for us to use common sense and logic while doing our job.
