my mileage improved and it sounds cool ....plus AEM, the leading seller of performance intakes, only uses K&N...that says something :dunno:

Exactly. Even this test (and it is pictured) shows the filter box. Comparing a cotton gauze cone filter to a paper filter box leaves open much too many variables to conclude that the filter itself is causing the variance in airflow. That experiment wouldn't be very valid.

i didn't realize we were speaking of a drop in K&N. i was talking about cone filter. i really don't see the point of puttin a drop in filter in....:dunno:

I popped in a replacement filter..............biggest load of bollocks out there. lost nothing in hp, gained a bit more actually, but I did upgrade from carbs to fuel injection. Plus I lost all the nice noises that came from my vtec.......car pull a bit better though

I threw a drop in, in my mom's 6th gen accord and she's gotten better gas milage out of the car. for a person that knows nothing about that stuff she likes it and has noticed a difference. I got her one so she'll never have to replace her airfilter. she only drives 7000miles a year. she's set for along time. worth the money for her case, imho.

as for the keeping the same car a long time. I can get my stock paper filter for $15. Which lasts 3 years or 60K miles. K&N drop in for my car was $45. That's 180K miles or 9 years. Plus you have to spend money for the filter recharger kit every 50K miles at $15/kit.

Math didn't work out for me.
Have you not changed the one on the M20 yet. Could BMW made it anymore of a PITA. You have to remove the airflow meter. Thats why mine has a K&N in it.
