as for the keeping the same car a long time. I can get my stock paper filter for $15. Which lasts 3 years or 60K miles. K&N drop in for my car was $45. That's 180K miles or 9 years. Plus you have to spend money for the filter recharger kit every 50K miles at $15/kit.
Math didn't work out for me.
Have you not changed the one on the M20 yet. Could BMW made it anymore of a PITA. You have to remove the airflow meter. Thats why mine has a K&N in it.
