Pretty much don't care. Heartless, yeah. But imo, considering the huge pro-poor bureaucracy in this country, you have to be pretty damn lazy and incompetent to be homeless. Jobs aren't that hard to find, and even a minimum wage job will make enough for food and board (as long as you're not trying to make it in San Francisco or some other expensive place.)

Sometimes I wish Hawaii would have drastic climate changes so the homeless would have to go to a shelter. Here they sleep on any bus bench, beach, sidewalk etc... Most that I do see are not mentally fit. There are others (overweight at that) that wander around. They are an eyesore, and I wish the state would do something about it, especially since HI has a tourism based economy.
You get to where you are because of a reason. There is help, all you need to do is ask.
I have no compassion for them.

Put down the crack pipe, the GOP has all three branches of government. The GOP creates homelessness at every opportunity.

Funny, I find it somewhat amusing to find that some in this thread, who have preached "tolerance" and "anti-hate" in other threads, make no bones about taking what could be conceived as an "anti" stance in this thead.

Examples please. Plus make a new thread about it. So we can see why some folks answered in some of the ways they did. It'd be interesting.

I'd agree with that. Here in Chicago, there are plenty of homeless shelters. If somebody is out panhandling after 5PM, there's a 100% chance that they're getting money for booze or drugs. Most aren't really homeless either.

I knew this one guy who was a heroin junkie. He worked, but he had friends who stood by highway off-ramps and begged all day. They lived in a nice house! There's this other guy who lives at the VA hospital nearby. Every Friday and Saturday night, he rolls (he has no legs) out to the bar district, and deliberately falls out of his wheelchair. He does it over and over, and drunken tourists give him money. Then there are the "I need bus fare" scams. When there were bus tokens, I would offer them a token, and they'd get all pissed at me!

Homelessness is a real problem, but panhandling is a different thing. Giving money to people on the street never helps, but shelters do need money and volunteers.

The last time I gave $$ to some begger was some beggar with a little baby. I was waiting for my wife at a train station and this woman came up to my car asking for money to buy her son juice. I really could not say I had no $$ because my money clip was in plain site on the seat next to me...plus I felt bad for the kid. SO I gave the lady $5 and she actually complained because she also needed cigarettes. The beotch hussled me out of another $5 because I knew if I didn't give her any more cash she would buy her cigarettes and screw her kid out of juice. So now I am no longer compasionate to any of them, and when they ask for money I tell them I only have credit cards and if they can accept them I would gladly give to em...they always go away with the funnies looks on their faces.

Funny how beggers have multiplied over the last two years. I don't suppose there could possibly be any link to our compassionate conservative government. Na, just coincidence. But, it's good to see all the compassionate people following their Christian values, asking themselves "what would Jesus do"?

It's not my duty to help beggers, everyone else works and gets by. Liek said above, go to a shelter, straighten up and find a decent job and work up.
