There's this black guy named Daryl who lives out of his van in the Safeway/Shucks/Skipper's parking lot near my old apartment that I'd take to breakfast or lunch every week & help him with a job. He eventually started working out of a temp agency a few weeks later & he wrote me a letter telling me how grateful he was for me helping him clean up his act... I even did some work on his van to get it running again, and I got mad discount at the Shuck's b/c the guy was glad to get him out of the parking lot... anyways, this goes back to the whole give him a fish & he'll eat for a day thing... the guy still works at Draper Valley Farms processing chickens 3 or 4 nights a week and moved into an apartment with a few guys he works with...

When I go to Seattle I see bums quite frequently, and I do my best to help, but I don't just give them money. I like to sit & chat with street bums because they are people just like us, just in a different situation. I figure if I can help someone realize who they really are, and get them out of their bad situation, I've had a life-long impact on someone, and I feel good about that. My girlfriend gets kinda scared around street people and gets really close, but I'm nearly as broke as they are half the time, and I know what it's like to go days w/o food because you are broke (even if you are working!).

At any rate, I have a soft spot for homeless people because a few of them are actually aware of the burden they pose on society & would have never imagined themselves in that situation, and I usually don't have a problem spending a few minutes with a couple street people and help them out w/o preaching to them or ignoring them...

In March 2003, more than 108,000 jobs were lost and the unemployment rate held at 5.8 percent. In addition, unemployment insurance claims hit their highest level in one year; more Americans stopped looking for work last month because they were discouraged over job prospects, and the critical growth in the service sector has abruptly ended. Under President Bush, unemployment has increased 41% and long-term unemployment has increased by 170%. [Bureau of Labor Statistics, 4/3/03].

Rather than looking at the fact that this is happening under Bush's Presidency and blindly blaming him for it look at the cause (Clinton) and the fact that more jobs would probably have been lost had Bush not taken the aggresive measures he has taken.

You belong on Fox News. When all else fails blame Clinton. I would like to see you explain the fiscal policy under Clinton that caused Bush's failure, and don't tell me that the dot com bubble burst. It is not dot commers that are out of work.

Oh yea, your the one who posted that it takes 4-8 years for economic policy to take effect. Your the one who credits Bush 41 for the great economic times under Clinton. When I told you that according to your rationale, you must credit Jimmy Carter for the economic boom experienced under Regan, and You must blame Regan for the Bush 41 recession, you didn't reply.

When Bush is history, and someone D or R comes in and goes back toward a balanced budged, that is when things will get better, nothing less. People are just not comfortable to spend and invest when the business is headed toward bankrupt. Not only the federal government, but the states as well. It's not too hard to understand.

Additionally, I've already explained to you why supply side economics has always failed and is failing now. Even when Bush's economic team warned him, he did nothing. He fired them and replaced them with those who now support his failed policies. You better hope that it does not take 4-8 years for economic policy to take effect, because if he does not turn things around in the next 20 months, your boy dubya is gone.

So when the DLS is showing bad news, blame W.? I don't know any friends or family who got or lost a job (no one I know has ever lost a job) because of a presidential administration.

Why are there more beggers in the city, where there is more business and opportunity? More competition for that job? I have very little compassion for those who don't want to work for their earnings. And it's mostly because I HAVE TO work and I HATE it. I wish I could live in Hawaii and drink all day. I've got bills and I dont want to burden other people with them, so why would they burden me with their expenses?

I was in Boston with friends and just before a concert we went to the package store. A bum was sitting outside panhandling and my friend gave him the change in his pocket. The bum followed us into the store, proceeded to the checkout counter and POINTED and MUMBLED his request for whiskey to the clerk. That's not painting a good picture for bums in my mind. And the guy spilled all the change he had in his cup on the counter. The clerk looked nauseated.

You know what? I see the same dirty dude on the corner of Market St across from 30th St Station every day, 12+ hrs a day, sitting on a milk crate selling flowers. He NEVER asks for a penny, just sits there and tries to sell roses for $5. He is very friendly, even though dude obviously is dirty and poor. THAT is the kind of guy I'd give my cash to...I admire him greatly. The dude literally sits there for 12+ hrs...morning noon and night, to make a few bucks selling flowers instead of the 10000000 bums around here who not only ask for change, but demand it.

Here they open the door for you, and if you dont pay, you get yelled at for not paying for their services. You get followed down the street getting whistled at, just so they can beg you for change. You get approached at the line in 7-11, where they sit and wait for you to pay and then hound you for your change so you cant say "no i dont have any." Its ridiculous. I could go on forever. There's one guy who sits at red lights, then comes out in front of your car and starts screaming at you how he needs money.

F*ck them...most of them....get a job. There are so many programs available...they can get cleaned up, get one free outfit and go work a day at Mcdonalds to get themselves on their feet at least.
:werd:

They are where they are by choice. Making $50k! Shit!

there is this guy i see everyday @ the exit ramp where i get off to goto work. he has this cardboard sign that says "homeless plese help", yet everyday he's in different clothes that look a lil ragged, but not like he lives in 'em.

he walks back & forth @ the side of the road & gets pissy when people won't give him money.

i makes me mad cause i think that's his "job" & he isn't really homeless. i never see him w/ something that looks like he carries his clothes in it, yet he has something different on everyday...very suspicious!!!!
