3) Doesn't think I can afford it...even though I work 80+ hours, and bring home nearly 50k a year...and I have hardly any expsenses. Car payment and insurance are no more then $675 monthly...and I bring home over 4k monthly.

Whatever...that and I've sold my interior, chassis, and motor to a buddy. So now I have no car...and have to find something "more reasonable" for me.

Hey not to be a prick but you might want to think about this from his point of view because (Assuming you live at home with your parents):

1) Doesn't want me to borrow money. Says I should wait till I have cash ready.

R He's afraid that if push comes to shove you will have to borrow money for something in the future, car related or not. He will throw it on your face like, "If you can afford an S2000, than you shouldn't ask me for money on anything.... why don't you get your own place since you make good money?"

2) Doesn't want me to spend 30k over the next 5 years.

R "Why not save for you future like a house, or money for if you ever get married?"

3) Doesn't think I can afford it...even though I work 80+ hours, and bring home nearly 50k a year...and I have hardly any expsenses. Car payment and insurance are no more then $675 monthly...and I bring home over 4k monthly.

R I think he knows you can afford it if thats what all your monthly expenses may be. But he'd probably rather see you spend your money on other things like future home, or depending on how he is with you like, "My son is old enough to move out? Why he is freeloading off of me? I should make him pay for the entire mortgage and all the utilities. He should take care of us now.."

So that might be what's going through his mind. Again if you live with him minor or not, he does have a say. He can always kick you out if tested. Again not trying to sound like a prick, but more of a few suggestions on why he's pissed at you.

maybe with all that money you're bringing in, you can pay your dad like 100 bucks a month to stay out of your business until you pay out your entire car? seriously, like bribe him, would that work? :dunno:

If u need ur parents permission to buy a car then u don't need an s2k. There are many things more worthwhile to spend ur dough on. Remeber that 5 yrs, a lot can happen in that time and the credit will not just dissapear. I once thought I could afford a celica gt-s when I was 17. Sure I could have paid for the monthly payments then, but if I had those payments now that I'm 20 and in college I would be struggling.

DUDE u don't need an s2k now. Save that money. Go travel the world or do something fun.

WOW....Thanks for all your oppions. I really appreciate it. To clear up a few things:

1) I'll be 21 in Aug...so I'm defninantly over age.
2) I live at home for free. I've offered to pay rent ever since I was a junior in HS. They never did get back to me on that, so I kinda dropped it.
3) The reason I needed a co-sign, was because I didn't have a credit history. I've only had a credit card for about 4 months.

I realize your point on putting some $ toward a house. But I'm not exactly sure where I'm planning on living for a while. I'm at home now, but in the fall I'm going to be going to Griffin Tech in GA. I'll be living there with my grandfather, so I'll have the opportunity to save more for a house etc...

Thanks alot...you guys are like my 2nd parents :P

well, then you'll lose your 80 hour workweek when you move to GA and youll have to start all over as far as finances go, dude. unless youre running some sort of high-maintenance internet scheme. seriously, dont think that you can just fall ass backward into a job in GA [which happens to have a lower per capita income] that can pay your bills, while you go to school.

80+ hours a week to make $50k? yikes.

regardless, as soon as you go to this "Griffin Tech", do you think you're going to have much time at all to work? especially, those 80+ hours. then how will you pay for the car? it seems like there are _many_ things you haven't taken into consideration.

sounds to me like your dad is being reasonable.

I would say try building up your credit first. S2000s are gonna be around for a while.

Hey Spike, if you are making around $50,000 a year, you are not bring home $4,000 a month. That figure is before taxes. After taxes and health insurance you are bring home somewhere around $2,300 a month.

I have to agree. Since you will be going to school you certainly wont have time to work 80 hours a week then. Shit, I wouldn't want to work 80 hours a week anyways, that would allow no time to enjoy the car anyways.

IMO, it was a bad choice to part out your car and buy a new one considering.

Just my opinion.
