You still haven't said a price range. How much are you looking to spend?

If I was gonna get something new, I'd like to try to keep it around or below $25k

If I was gonna keep my Civic and buy a beater, I'd like to keep it below $6k.

What about a Jeep Cherokee? They are probably one of the best snow vehicles ever made, if not the best. Jeep has crappy resale value so you can get them dirt cheap.

Stay the hell away from the old 4Runners and Tacomas with the 3.0 engines. That was a shitty ass engine and those are really poorly designed vehicles if you ask me. The more recent 4Runner and Tacomas with the 3.4 engines are great vehicles though. The used ones hold there value really well though so they will be expensive.

Why is that funny?

Solid front and rear axle, 4.0 inline 6 engine, bulletproof transfer case, the automatic tranny on them usually holds up well. Long enough wheelbase so it's not sketchy in snow, pretty good ground clearance. They are one of the best off road vehicles ever made, but its a Jeep so that is expected.

Unreliable.

Maybe he was thinking Wranglers. Wranlgers may be good off-road but everyone I've driven in the snow is :nervous:

Wrangler isn't as good in snow because it is short wheelbase. Cherokee has a longer wheel base.

And I'm sure Audi has a much worse reliability record than Jeep does. Most people I know that have had Jeeps have been happy with them, and parts are cheap enough. Not the case with shitty VW quality Audis with expensive parts.

Suprisingly enough, the those 4.0 Jeep Cherokees a few of my friends had where pretty reliable. I would be hesitant to buy a domestic vehicle, but those Jeeps seemed to hold up just fine. :dunno:
