it depends how old? the really old ones arent very good, but the newer ones are seeming to be more relaiable and such.

Generally, how many miles are subarus good for? What kind of mileage range should I be looking in to find a car that will still be reliable (for the handful of times I'll need it throughout the year) and will last a while? If I got one with like 70 or 80k, would that be ok?

Too be honest... I don't see a lot of older ones on the road... maybe nothing past... 95ish... but.. then again.. I didn't really start paying attention to them until 3 or 4 years ago.

80K would be fine. Those motors never die if maintained. Ask Rick about his Subaru XT sometime. h:

you mutherbish! you said you would not tell

hahahahha
yeah my 1988 subaru XT 4WD. I went 10-20K between oil changes and it ran fine. The valves were noisy (needed a valved adjustment) but I didn't feel like paying for it so I just put in an extra quart. it was also burning 1 quart every 5k miles so I was really changing the oil one quart at a time :chuckles:

I got the car in 1992 for $3500 and then sold it for $500 4 years later with 165K miles on it

the new owner got a valve job and it ran for 3 more years until he crashed it

That would be nice, but I've heard bad things about regular WRXs in terms of gas mileage....I could only imagine what an STi would be like
