Default AWD Commuter Car?

After smacking up (not bad, but enough to piss you off) my Civic driving to work in a snow storm the other night, I've started toying with the idea of getting something with AWD. What do you guys think would be a good AWD commuter car? I know AWD takes its toll on gas mileage, but I'd still like something that gets halfway decent gas mileage. Also, it has to be good quality. So far, I've found:

Honda CRV
Honda Element
Toyota Matrix XR 4WD
Toyota Rav 4
Subaru Impreza 2.5RS/WRX
Hyundai Santa Fe

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions? Your input is appreciated.

A kid I used to work with had an A4 and said it was a nice car, but was not very reliable and he had a ton of problems with it. I need something that will be rock solid reliable (like my Civic).

It would help to know your price range. The Subie WRX can be had for around $22,000 :dunno: And obviously that's going to give you much more driving enjoyment than all the others combined. Aside from that, it comes down to personal taste and whether or not you want to go used.

I would pick up an older Legacy or 2.5RS. If you just want a commuter car, don't bother shepping out tons of cash on a WRX or the like.
