Default I might get a CRX

If I could find one that isn't riced out, I'm gonna hunt the junkyards to find one that has a chassis in decent shape and then try and try and get a shell. Way I look at it if I do go into SCCA racing it'll probably be the cheapest way to start because they do allow non Si CRX 84-87 in the Improved Touring C class. Blue book on one is less that $1000, once I strip it off everything I could salvage some more money for a roll cage and other safety gear. The Accord would be eligible for ITC, but I don't know if I want to use my daily driver.

So... no more eating out... no more tech toys... gonna have to save money big time if I want to have a car by the end of the year. Once my brother gets into town I'll talk to him, he wants to get SCCA certified for his 30th b'day but he wants to go to a driving school. Those cost around $5k and up, but it might be cheaper for us to get certified if we use our own car.

I am gonna save every penny I can, I am determined to atleast have a car sitting on our driveway on blocks by the end of the year. Sure $1k seems like nothing to most people, but when you are broke like me its a lot of money.

The rex will kick ass on the track. Just match driver skill with menuverability (if that made sense) and

Know where I can get info/prices on driving suits, shoes, gloves and helmets. And d'ya know where I can find info on what it costs to put a roll cage into a car. Trying to make a spreadsheet of what it'll cost to get a regional license.

Depends. What kind of suit are you looking for? I only looked at cheaper sparco's...still too much for my ass .

There are complete pre built kits, or you can construct your own rollbar. Which are you looking into?

best bet...find a buddy who welds (certified, not weekend warrior) and have them build you up a roll cage for a case of beer and some burgers on the grill....

Roll bars: looking for max protection... duh... I'd prefer doing it on my own since I think a prebuilt one might need more work than a do it yourself.

Gear: I found a site called saferacer.com that has price on racing gear. Looks like a suit, helmet, gloves, shoes and undies is gonna run me around $2300. Doing a guesstimate on a rollcage, racing seats and racing harness my total comes to around $5000. Guess if I am really interested I outta write to SCCA and find out what all safety gear they require.

Its expensive, but its atleast cheaper than going out and partying every weekend. I think most people spend $5k a year partying and on other crap, so if I don't do that then I can get money for racing.
