Who taught you that!! That sounds like a recipe for a tank slapper to me. I rarely use the rear brakes, but when i do, it always very gently, there have been some close calls.

Thats sucks you got hurt, I hope you doing better. It really only odes take a quick second for something to go wrong. I had a prett bad concussion from mountain biking a long time ago. Basically the same things that you could remeber, mnius the ambulance, there was never one called. But memory loss of things that literally just happened is really scary.

I hope you're are planning on getting back on the bike come spring, these things are too much fun to give up!

The motorcycle training program held by the CHP.

If you use the rear brakes most of the time then the chances are that you are riding carefully and safely looking away and very aware of whats going on.

Obviously it's not what you would do if you were doing a canyon run.

Wow. I never took the safety class, so i never heard that. Seems odd, I wouldnt want to get into the habit of using only my rear brake. Ive been using my front brake since i used to mtn bike race at age 11, knowing that is where you get the most stopping power.

Im slightly confused. Why are the chances that if you are using your rear brake that you are riding more carefully and safely? Are we gambling here? And whats does Looking more aware have to do with being more aware of whats going on? I dont see what determines these things as being any more safe than if you were paying attetnion, and still using the front for 75% of the braking.

I was repeating what they taught. I figured they were all veteran motorcycle cops so they knew what they were talking about. :dunno: that was nearly 10years ago.

damaged parts list:

right side panel broken
left side panel scratched heavily
headlight assembly busted
windscreen & front fairing busted
instrument cluster busted
right hand control completely sheared off
front brake master cylinder busted
both mirrors broken
tail section severly scratched
tank - 2 dents

more than likely it'll be totaled

as far as rear braking, there was a black mark about 10 ft long & kinda corkscrew shaped before the long one going towards the pole. the best i can figure is i grabbed the front brakes hard (dual 320mm calipers) & they locked up. when this happened i must've panicked & switched to the rears & then they locked. the grade of the road was to the left, so that is the direction the backend took.

i had gotten excused from jury duty & it was a nice day so i decided to take it out for one last ride before winter set in & i had to park it. i had been down that road before & knew the turns, but that day i was just doing a leisure ride, not laying down & riding hard. i don't know what happened other than i lost concentration or was distracted @ the wrong time:dunno:

i don't know if i will get another bike or pay off some bills w/ the insurance. i'm considering just paying off some things & come next summer going & get me a harley (which is what i really wanted in the first place). i decided to get a "crotch-rocket" & get it outta my system before i bought a harley.

well guess what....IT'S OUTTA MY SYSTEM!!!! :lmfao:
