It seems that most of the replies/suggestions to buying a Prelude, Civic or HB are superficial. Hardly any of them are functional or mature in their rationale.
Is anyone able to give xjdmb16a2six any reasons to buy one of the three that have nothing to do with personal opinions on looks or "style". Is the reliability better with one of them? What about handling (without any mods)? Expensive when it comes to repairs/parts/labor time...even if you do it yourself?
Come on people...help the guy out. He can formulate his own opinions on the color or tyre size.

fastball,
Do you see? Even in your attempts to condone my statement, you have now passed on some uniquely identifiable characteristics which differentiate the types of cars xjdmb16a2six is looking at: high performance engine, larger brakes, beefier clutch, econo-box vs. performance car, only in coupe form (1998-99 only). All of these have some bearing to a rational decision. Liking a car simply because "it goes vroom" makes people appear ignorant and childish...perhaps one in the same.
Although slightly muttled with your own unnecessary comments about how it "has everything you need and nothing you don't", I'm sure that xjdmb16a2six will be able to make a more justified and knowledgeable decision when it comes to buying his car.
Thank you for allowing us to see that you have useful information which can be a contributing factor to future Honda buyers.

Legroom is definatlly a bonus but just having an over all BETTER car then the civic. civics are "nice" in there own little way but i would take a prelude which has much more possabilities in car modifications in someways. i know that u can swap engines and what not in civics(imagine how much i car tho) but the lude just feels better to drive imo.

well one of the reasons why i want a hatch is because i want to swap the engine with a B18c1. but people been telling me to get the prelude. and i like the prelude too. so now im considering the lude, but i need some good reason to pick the lude. the lude is much more expense than the hatch. but if i get the lude ill be getting a faster car. and if i get the hatch the swap will be coming out of my own money.
one thing to keep in mind...
doing a swap doesnt always work out for the best. You have to worry about problems that can arise if the swap doesnt go as planned, extra money to spend on parts that didnt come with the engine you bought, etc
there is just alot of extra time, money, and care that goes into a swap. if you go with the 5th gen lude (just for example :naughty: ) you'll KNOW you have a kick ass engine. there will be less stuff to go wrong, and you will love it just as you would the swap car (maybe even more!).
it all depends on who you are.. the guy that wants to spend alot of money/time/effort just to get the car RUNNING, go ahead.
or you can buy a car that is fast/handles good/etc right outta the box, then spend time/money/effort to make the car FASTER.. and not have to worry as much about the keepup, etc
starting to ramble.. hope this made sence. .02$

So you can get a civic and have to modify it to make it faster. Or get a Prelude that is already fast and just has to be enjoyed.
My eye's that's a pretty simple decision... depends if you really into getting a common everyday car and moding it or if you just want to go with the higher class car right from the get go. If you want to mess with it or if you want to just take it home and enjoy.
I'd look at it like getting something home and having to work on it right away to get it to be what you want versus getting something home and being able to enjoy it right away. Could also look at it, are you looking for performance or economy. I do believe that one of the fastest Honda's on Earth is a Civic... yes a highly modified Civic... BUT... it's got a Prelude engine.
Something to think about if your going for performance.

If you can not decide and if you really want to go through with the hassle of a motor swap, then why settle with a B18C1? Why not drop an H22 motor in? You'll have both a HB and a prelude motor....problem solved...
