2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse
I have a little bit of faith in Mitsubishi that it will recognize that the next Eclipse will have to move up in terms of performance. Its a stretch, but I'm hoping that Mitsu takes a few pages from the Evo's book and applies it to the next Eclipse. However, judging from the spy pics, the car is no longer the sport compact that it used to be.
Mitsubishi’s Eclipse Concept-E is a hybrid vehicle powered by a 3.8-liter V-6 engine generating 269 hp for the front wheels and a 150 kW electric motor that drives both the front and rear wheels for a total of 470 hp. It uses a six-speed automated manual transmission that allows the driver to drive in either manual or automatic mode.
The glowing orange two-plus-two seater has a lunging posture with 20-inch wheels, performance tires, rear wing spoiler, side exhausts and a glass roof. The outside mirrors have a teardrop theme. It features futuristic looking plasma headlamps and neon turn signals and brake lights. The inside also features neon lighting on the high-tech instrument panel.
The vehicle is 173 inches long, 74 inches wide and 52 inches tall. The wheelbase is 105 inches.
The automaker has not revealed the price of the vehicle.

Ah, so the orange wedgy thing is nothing more than a sketch of the concept car. The production car probably looks nothing like it, and does indeed look like what's under the camouflage in the spy pics.
Since when did Mitsubishi have hybrid technology? I wasn't aware that were developing it on their own and I didn't hear that they had entered into any partnerships to gain access to it. The concept E sounds very interesting, its a good showcase for all of Mitu's future technologies and a good way to show the automotive world what its capable of. However, I doubt the next generation Eclipse will share much with the concept, except for the 3.8L V6 engine.
