Default Ls/vtec...VERY BAD IDEA....

I just wanted to share some info that I found about LS/VTEC with you guys. Basically this webpage states why ls/vtec and b20 bottom end swaps are a very bad idea, and how it leads to greatly decreased reliablity and eventual breakdown of the engine components. I always knew that there was something wrong with this idea...I mean, dont you guys think that honda knows what they are doing? If they decrased the displacement of the b18c1 and b18c5, then they must have done it for a reason.
Anyway, here is the link. Let me know what you guys think after you read it......

I'm sorry, but if it's done right, you can pretty much put a lot of people to shame with a properly built B20 VTEC or B18B VTEC. I've seen a few hybrids competing in the Honda-Challenge that run hybrid engines and they do it right and the car runs excellent!

yea, i am with drumsy on this one. One of my friends has a turbo ls/vtec, and there really have not been any problems with it. It was also built 3 years ago. Its still pretty strong.

if you put enough time and money nto any project you can get it done right. If you go cheap of course it will be shitty and break down.

you're not making much sense to me- you said that ls/vtecs were not a good idea yet you talk about b20 blocks with vtec heads. be aware that the b20 and b18a blocks are different.

this article has been out for a while and I have discussed it many times. this article is a true example of considering the source of the information before you treat it as gospel.

the main point I have against it is that the rpm range that is detrimental to any setup, but especially lsvtecs or crvtecs is not the rpm range most mild-moderately modified setups will ever see. I dont see the point personally in building an engine to withstand a nuclear bomb when you're only gonna use a peashooter on it, if you get my analogy.

point well taken.......its just that dont you guys think that if this was a very reliable setup, that honda would have already been mass producing it in some high performance integra or something ? I'm not saying that the setup is not fast.....you can look at 1/4 mile times for ls/vtecs and you can see that they kick ass.... I'm just saying that if the setup was all its cracked up to be...honda would have had the foresight to see this, and they would have taken advantage of it.

nah cause now they can just sell more engines so that lsvtecers and crvtecers can swap em in

well can you even buy an engine from honda new?

the biggest issue is cost, for us to build up a reliable LS/VTEC your looking $3-4K, gas mileage goes down, and smog emissions goes up. Factoring all this in, its not feasible for a car manufacturer to sell a glorified civic econobox and still make a nice profit

Isn't this the same Honda that won't bring us the RSX Type R (JDM Integra Type R) and CTR?
