How to know when does VTEC kicks in?
when i used to have my second gen db2....i believe it kicked in at 5700, but i might never know cuz the person i bought mine from swapped in a 90-91 ls gauge cluster....prolly for lower milage. i crashed my car a few days before i received the jdm cluster. would the rpms still be correct? i was able to take the car well past the visual redline till 8000....the end of the tach.

When you're racing the mustang next to you and he's beating you, then all of a sudden your car "kicks in" and you smoke him, that was when vtech kicked in
But yeah, what these guys said. If I'm not mistaken the type-R doesn't have this 2-stage "vtec engagement", so it pulls much harder at the crossover point.

Anyways yes that is true, type-R's do not have dual engagement, but you can acheive this same thing on a GSR by getting a skunk2 intake manifold. Only thing is that your check engine light will then stay on forever. I have this and it annoys me.
