Also, for those of you who have to follow CA smog laws, header wrap is a de jure illegal modification.
Header wrap isn't an OEM equivalent part and no header wrap is sold with a CARB Exemption Order #.

Frankly I wouldn't bother in either case.

Does the DC Sports header fall in to that particular category? And if its worth anything the header is ceramic coated. As far as those illegal modification laws i think im in the clear, i know people

If you want to spend more per smog check to finance an illegitimate shop and run wrap, you need to rethink your priorities.

We're talking about 3-5 hp here; hardly worth risking a citation and a trip to the smog referee if a cop asks you to pop the hood a traffic stop.

Save your money, save the hassles.
Skip the header wrap.

PHILADELPHIA is the murder capital in the US if i am not mistaken! The authorities are not going to stop me because they think im running an illegal exhaust system. Their going to stop me to find out if (1. I have priors and a warrant 2. A trunk full of cocaine or guns 3. The car is stolen or has not been registered). If this does happen i think i could take a $40 ticket to the chin. Ill just learn from my own mistakes. I don't even think their is a smog referee in Philadelphia. But after everything i do appreciate the concern

I could've sworn PA joined CT, VT, NY and the other Northeast states that follow CA smog law. If I'm wrong, then fine go ahead and run it.

Personally, I wouldn't bother because the gains aren't going to be as dramatic as you think they'll be.

i didnt think NY had SMOG laws...i could be wrong...

i say its probably not really worth the time to wrap your header. theres no way it can help do anything on a non race car.

EDIT: what was your main reason for wrapping them anyway???

I'm just worried about excessive heat coming from the exhaust manifold. Trust me i can care less about extra power the wrap can free up. The main reason of the post was to find out if the wrap would crack the DC ceramic header while trying to keep the engine bay temps down. No more or less.

Safest course of action is to skip the wrap, then.

Is the 3-5hp documented somewhere? Because that's pretty awesome for a low-cost mod....

I know I'm partly to blame for fueling this debate, but since it seems like this one is going to persist until the sun burns out, I'll summarize my position thusly:

The OP and I both own the same model of DC Sports header. In the instructions for that header, they expressly state that the use of header wrap increases the risk of cracking. They go on to say that the use of header wrap will void the new product warranty.

So if a whopping 3% gain in hp has you all hot and bothered and you don't give a shit about replacing a cracked header, by all means go ahead. Personally, I don't think it's worth it for a daily driver.
