Default throwing a code 14, EACV. help

i have a 91 hatch with a 91 ls motor and ecu. The ecu is flashing code 14 which is the one for the electronic air control valve. This does make sense cause the car won't idle and it kinda bounces, how do i fix this? Is the valve bad or what.

Replace it. Done.

You could try to clean it with some carb cleaner if you really want, but just replacing it would be ideal.

It would also throw that code if the IACV was unplugged. Or if a wire was broken in that circuit. We can't tell from here, you've got to check it out.

Yeah like JimBlake said, the three possible causes of a Code 14 are the valve has gone bad, it's unplugged, or there's a wiring issue. As long as the thing is plugged in you most likely just have a bad valve.

well...it could be a wiring situation. i swapped the motor and i had to splice in the plug for the integra cause my civic plug did not fit. It was only two wires though, and i've tried wiring it both ways. How much is this to replace?

A new IACV is about $190 or so from a dealer. Ouch.

I would break out the voltage meter and make sure the wiring is perfect first.

damn. that's spendy. How would i figure out if the wiring is messed up with a voltage meter? This was my first swap and i really learned everything i've done from this site, so i'm a little stuck right now and unexperienced. Thanks for all the help

Stick one probe on the plug at the ECU and one at the IACV plug, and check for continuity.

could my vacuum hoses being in the wrong place make this code come up also? just curious if that could cause it cause they might be off.

Maybe?? A vacuum leak or somthing else that screws up the idle speed. The ECM uses the IACV, trying to control the idle. It doesn't work because of the vacuum leak, but the ECM doesn't know why - so it blames the ICAV.
