I gotta 95 integ, and i got airbags for it, the connectors won't fit. The guy who sold it to me told me to cut and splice it in. Is that ok?

:eh: Since the plugs don't match, I say take the bags back. And to tell you the honest truth... I'd sooner go without airbags than start modifying the system connectors. If your soldered connections were to short out, it is quite possible for the airbag to go off accidentally. Buy SRS modules that actually fit, I say.

If you get the manuals for both cars and match the pinouts you might be able to rig it up ghetto style, but like said, its kinda risky...

*EDIT* what yr airbags you buy?

Hmm.

I *think* depowered air bags were added to the car at some point in the model run. That would explain the different connectors.

So, depowered, meaning they won't work or what? The guy will hook it up for me and says it will work, insists that it will

Yes, Mike, you are correct. In 1998, in response to pressure on the NHTSA and DOT, the requirements on SRS airbags were amended, leading to the development of the multi-stage airbag system.

Multi-stage airbags contained more than one squib-type gas generator cartridge. The wiring and controller modules also changed in 1998, become more sophisticated. A multi-stage airbag will inflate with less force in a low-speed frontal collision (by firing only one gas generator cartridge). In a high-speed frontal collision, both gas generator cartridges fire and the airbags deploy faster and with much more force.

While I don't know the specifics of the system used by Honda in the 98+ model years, I do know that common sense dictates not f*cking around with such potentially dangerous componentry. :a:

I'd return the incompatible airbags and either find ones that work - or do without altogether.

What legal recourse will you have if you or your passenger gets injured as a result of his "hack" job.

His offer is to make an incompatible part function, and unlike an alternator or a power-steering pump, the parts he's working with contain explosive charges and when activated, will deploy with savage force. If they go off in error, you could be severely injured or killed.

FWIW, I wouldn't trust myself to properly repair a system that has so much potential danger. And I sure as hell wouldn't let someone who's so concerned with closing the sale that he'll forsake the safety of his client even touch the damn car. Consider the seller's motives and his [probable] lack of qualifications.

I cannot emphasize this enough.

Don't take chances with this system.

Do whatever is necessary to recoup your money, and buy airbags that will work as intended by the OEM.

Seriously.

Hopefully you can make a sale quickly. :goodjob:
I'm glad to hear that you're gonna do the repair without taking chances.
IMO, the whole SRS system is too dangerous to mess with..:ugh: h:

 Good luck and speedy sales.
