Default adjusting valves?

does this just mean turn the engine over manually and make sure the valves are set right? also to turn the engine do you just turn the cam gear or how?

you do it with the motor cold and you rotate each cylinder to TDC to check valve clearances. Rotate the motor using the crank bolt because the cam bolt could come loose.

I also suggest removing the sparkplugs to make it easy to rotate the motor over.

Or a torque wrench (the adjustment nut calls for a torque) with a 1/4"x6" extension and a crow's foot with the corners ground down. The only one I couldn't use this one was the #1 cylinder which had a ridge on the head between valves. In that case, I just used a socket, put the feeler gage between the valve and the follower arm, ran the shaft down until there was tension, backed it off 1/4" of a turn, then torqued the nut down. 9 times out of 10 it was right on when I checked it again with the feeler gage afterwards. If its not right, try it again and again until its primo. A set of 90* gages would be ideal, but 45* will work too.
