Adjusting Valves
Ok I have a little more than 30 thousand miles on my gsr. I don't know if I need my valves adjusted or not.I'm wondering what would happen if I didn't get it done, anything major? Also about how much is it at the dealership? Thanks for any info.
From what I know you shouldn't need to adjust your valves untill 60k. Which is when you do a tune-up. Which just so happens to be where I'm at. I bought my car at 61000 miles and I know that previous owner didn't do the 60k mile tune-up, and now I am at 69k miles and I know I shouldn't keep driving with out doing the tune-up. I plan on changing the fuel filter, changing the tranny fluid (tranny fluid is just 10w30 correct??), and I'm wanting to get the valves re-adjusted. So I am also curious if anyone knows how much it is to get them re-adjusted at the dealership. I'm not under a warranty or anything either. If anyone has any other things they think I should change at the 60k tune up please let me know. I've heard the timing belt as well , but if I look at the timing belt and it doesn't look too bad should I still replace it?? Ok any comments would be helpful.
the tranny fluid you use is ONLY Honda Manual Tranny fluid. You do not use Oil!
As far as adjusting valves it has to be done when the car is cool.
So make sure you have the shop that does your adjustment do the adjustments when the car is cool. So if you drop it off they don't do it right away.
You can also do the valve adjustment yourself.

So where should I get my tranny fluid?? Should I go to Acura and ask for their special fluid, or go and get any kind of 10w30 tranny oil. I know Redline is good stuff, but for the price is it worth it?? What makes it any better then the normal stuff??
even tho you can use 10w30 safely (or somewhat safely), i would suggest getting honda MTF (from any honda/acura dealer). people say good things about redline as well. personally, i haven't tried it. i'm very happy with MTF.
Adjusting valves is easy, but a royal pain in the ass, and to be done with an ease really needs to people. Just get a manual to tell you what the intake and exhaust spacing should be, and the appropriate feeler gauge.
It took me about 45 minutes to do my car, it's easy, in theory, but the angles and the adjustments take time to get right.
