Built f22a4 or used h22a?
Okay so I have two reasonable options for my '91 accord.
Option one - used JDM h22a1.
Option two - My existing F22a w/ 12:1 compression pistons, all new seals, bearings, gaskets and rings, stainless steel valves, double titanium valve springs and titanium retainers, stage two non-VTEC cam, crower rods, ported and polished head.
Which would you folks go for? I'm interested in reliability as well.. I can't afford to get hit with a dead engine in 3 years... I'm a (somewhat) broke student.. :P

Um, have you looked around at parts for the F22? Gude sells a reground cam. Nobody sells any kind of stiffened valve spring for the F22. There's no such thing as a titanium valve spring at least on the mass market, for any motor. And titanium retainers for the F22, forget it.
How much you looking to spend? I'm a similarly broke student and plans generally seem to take longer and longer to amass funding for.

Well no, I haven't looked into parts for the F22 because it was never a logical choice for me. I ordered an h22a1 from a place in California and waited 5 months, after which point I cancelled my cheque because I was sick of waiting and didn't believe that they shipped it anyway.
The money was burning a hole in my bank account and I spent too much <grin> so now I have a grand less than I'd need to do another h22a1 swap. I thought I could save money by rebuilding my f22a, and I knew even with amazing parts (which seem not to exist) it still wouldn't be as powerful as the h22a.
Hrm... I guess I answered my own question.
Well then for the sake of comparison, roughly how much would it cost to build up my f22a?

Ferrea sells valves and springs as well as retainers for F22 engines.
Whell slap me around and call me Susan, Ferrea does sell springs and retainers for the F22.
The whole schmear will run ya 600 bucks just for that. Then you need a cam, intake, header, exhaust, pistons, rods, whatever the hell else, yadda yadda yadda. Without thinking about the specifics too much it's easy to see that getting all of the little things for an F22 non VTEC motor and trying to match the output of a stock H22 is going to cost more than the whole H22.
As long as you get the swap from a reputable place like h-motorsonline, osakajdmmotors, nippon-motors, you shouldn't have an experience like you did the first time around.

only reason i knoew was cause i jsut got a chacne to dig through their newest catalog...they have awesome support for honda engines....of course it costs.
As you can see, H22 just has more upgrade paths from there. Meeting the bottom end of a H22 with a F22 modded up, is quite possible. But where can you go from there? I haven't found anywhere that has turbo kits for F22. H22 parts and upgrades are all over. After I pay off my Prelude, I plan on getting an H22. Right now I'm trying to only buy parts that would be able to be reused after the swap. Since a swap is quite a bit of time away.
Points taken, but clickwir, I think that Drag3 makes a turbo kit for the f22a, I saw it on modacar.com...
But I think I'm going for an h22a... the f22a seems like a dry well..
Thanks for the points, guys.

WHAT!?!?! Me not know everything.... well I guess it's possible.
I was in the same boat, upgrade or swap. Not too many upgrade options I found for the F22. Everyone and their mother sells H22 upgrades though.
