Default loud noise need help!

i just intalled a new crankshaft and meanwhile the motor hasnt been started for about 3-4 weeks, now that everything is back together when i start the car it idels fine, has good oil pressure, good fuel pressure but there is a loud clanking noise comming from the valvetrain what seems like the rockers but im not sure. the timing is right and the head is getting plenty of oil but i have no clue what a solution would be?????????

are you sure its not ticking or knocking from the valves needing to be adjusted?? if its not, all i can say is hope for the best but expect the worst

i just checked again, it sounds like the rockers but feels like its in the bottom end and im going to take the oil pan off and check the torque on the crank and rod nuts and bolts, also see if there is anything getting hit, hopefully its an easy fix but most likely not

First, I do not belive the B-series motors use rockers (like d-series). The camshaft sits directly on the valvetrain...
Man, you could be in for a rude awakening...
Do u have an ITR motor (B18C5)?
Did you re-assemble the motor yourself?
I know for a fact, that you must use a special strain gauge on the connecting rod bolts to properly torque them...
I hope you did this..
If not, then that's prob your problem...
If you did assemble the motor CORRECTLY, then it could be a couple of things... However I stress correctly, because there are tolerances that should be checked when re-assembling...
Check in this order
-timing belt cover
-rod bolts
-clearances

Oh and why did you have to replace the crankshaft? Was it destroyed before, cause that could have caused other major problems if it was destroyed...

Hope this helps,
Keep us posted...

well i think i found the problem , im going to be the first one to call myself stupid for this, the stock itr strock its 87.2mm and the new crank stroke brings it to 89mm. I checked and the rods are barely nicking the part where the cylinder wall meets the crankhousing. i did a little grinding on the section and it dampend the sound a little but im pulling the motor removing everything and making the rest of the clearence for the rods......a friend of mine had the same problem when he got strocker crank. i have to give thanks to the company JGE that lied to me about stock specs....but anyways its a much lighter crank and its bumping my compression up just a bit so no worries

ummm.. no.. all b-series cams do not sit directly on the valvetrain... it sits on the rocker assembly..

First off, valves needing adjustment do not make a KNOCKING sound, where did you get that??
Knocking usually has to do with the crankshaft, because of the "massive" parts that are being rotated around. If one of these parts, with alot of mass (compared to a valve), strikes something else inside the block, you get a knocking sound, compared to a clicking sound that is typical of valves needing adjustment...
Second you don't have to get cocky with me... I wasn't sure that's why I stated it that way...
I stated "I do not belive" they have rockers, which translates to "I'm pretty sure they don't" do u get it???

Besides I said "like the d-series" meaning, from memory I know that the B-series cams sit directly on the cam followers (as haynes calls them) (some people call these rockers?) , which translate the motion directly to the valves, unlike a d-series which uses "rocker arms" to translate the cam motion to the valves BECAUSE THE CAM SITS IN-BETWEEN the intake and exhaust valves, not DIRECTLY on top...

So, since I am going strictly from memory, I'm sorry if I confused you about the terminology, from my perspective the term rocker meant the use of the same architecture as a d-series has, namely "rocker arms"...

Besides, chill out with the flaming... I've done PLENTY of work on both engines...

i was thinking either A) since i put a longer stroked crank in the pistons might of been tapping the valves since im high compression B) pistons might be tapping the bottom of the head C) might have a bad rocker.

if B the fix might be a thicker head gasket
iv ruled out C
im going to pull the head and check the valves
I just checked and the connecting rods and the are tapping the inner block so i have to do some shaving when i pull the motor....should be fun

Ahh, my bad, like I said I misunderstood, you...

Beleive me, I'm not trying to bash u, sorry it came off that way...
And I'm not trying to flame you either, cause I'm an adult...

Woke up on the wrong side of the bed, LOL? Nah it's because on SHO, all I do is argue with people left and right, cause everyone flames everyone else like crazy...

No hard feelings,

Take care man!
