Default rear end making a loud humming noise as i drive...

when im driving down the road, there is a loud humming noise coming from the rear, what would cause that noise and how much would it cost to fix? i think its my u joint but i could be wrong at least i think its called a u joint....

could be a wheel bearing. if it gets louder and vibrates the car more with speed its likely a wheel bearing on its way out.

Universal joints are generally found on the driveshaft of a rear-wheel drive car.
Your car is not rear-wheel drive. :run:

I'll bet you a pint it's a wheel bearing issue*.



*No, I'm not flying out to SLC to make good on the deal (if I'm wrong).

i have a similar issue with my front end. Wheels bearings as well or possibly the cv axle?

If it gets louder as wheel rpm increases, then yeah, it's probably the wheel bearing. If the noise is at it's loudest when accelerating and/or turning, it could be a dying CV joint.

Have a shop check your wheel bearing, more than likely the problem.

yeah sorry about the u joint comment we have a 67 xr7 mercury cougar and me and my dad were replacing the u joint and drive shaft on it after that i hoped on....sorry but yeah i know its not the cv joint(s) im willing to bet that it is a wheel bearing and do you guys have a rough estimate of what it might cost for me to get that fixed....
