i have a 90 ls.. and my tranny is slippin gear. it wiont stay in second unless i hold the shift down and when im drive in 5th i would pop outta gear every 5 mins or so. any idea wats wrong with it. is it the tranny or my clutch?

 

im thinkin its the tranny.. you would know if the clutch was going out because the rpm will rise while your speed stays the same.. almost like you are in neutral..

First and foremost, check the condition of your motor mounts.
If the engine is not sitting correctly, it can put a strain on the shifting components, causing the car to pop out of gear...
I had a similiar problem popping out of 3rd gear, I knew it was because my engine mount (timing belt location) was bad... I replaced it with a new one, and my problems were gone...

My guess is it has to do with the linkage.
Check it out & let us know.

 

thanks a lot mberndt i was hopin someone told em that. ima have that take a look to save more money. i was check my car and the front mount was missin a bolt and the linkage was kinda outta place

i just put on the mountin bolt and it helps a lil.. it doesnt pop outta gear aas much as b4. but my linkage joint is still kinda bent so ima try and get new bushin and see wat happen then
