Hi guys, just stumbled across this thread. I'm planning a similar project. I already have a 95 B18b in a 90 HF CRX. The engine when installed had just over 10k so I'm not planning to open the engine. LS engines are supposed to do 10 psi with all stock innards.I have done some turbo sizing math and the GT28RS seems a perfect size for "streetable" HP. (less than 300 whp) Another good match seems to be the T3 Super 60. It is a fact that the T3/T4 is the one for high HP. FWIW, the GT28RS comes in either it's original T25 flange or as a T3/T4 "drop in" package. The GT has new technology impeller wheels and ball bearings at about $1200 clams, but list on a T3 Super 60 with ball bearings is $1300 or so! Sure the T3 off the Ford Turbo Coupe is $100 bux at the yard, but if you want to play....... What are you guys doing for fuel management? My calculations suggest that DSM 450cc injectors will max before the turbo. Any info? Zdyne, Hondata, Turboedit, Uberdata???
Thanks, didn't mean to make a big splash with my first post.

For running 10 psi on a B18B1, the GT28RS is actually about dead even with the TO4E 50 and 54 trims in terms of peak efficiency. Most turbo kits have a TO4E 54 compressor. They all hit about 77% efficiency according to the compressor maps. The Super 60 tops out at about 70% efficiency.

As for fuel management, Hondata requires a starting point of an OBD1 ECU so you'd need to do some rewiring to get it to work in a '90 car. Of the freebies, the consensus seems to be that Turboedit is better than Uberdata although I don't have any personal experience with them. Zdyne is pricey but it's programmable on the fly and has a couple semi-useful gimmicks like a 2-step rev limiter.

i have a t3 super 60 in my protege5...top end isn't that big of a deal for me as it's engine is pretty anemic over 4500 rpms (can't breathe)...the b18b is can still breathe up top thanks to better engine building by honda

One thing to keep in mind, if you buy the hype, All the "t" series are 80's technology. The GT stuff is "new". FWIW, the T3/T4 combo is one of the best hybrid turbos and continues to make good power especially at higher boost.
One thing I'm concerned about, my CRX is a street car. IMO a "proper" street car has AC. I already have AC and want to keep it. How much work am I making for myself? The underhood of the CRX is small enough already. Anyone here done boost and AC on a CRX with a B engine?
TIA

Right, I know.

In the post of yours I was replying to it seemd that you were saying the GT28RS is about equal to the Super 60 in power potential and is exceeded by the T3/T4.

"I have done some turbo sizing math and the GT28RS seems a perfect size for "streetable" HP. (less than 300 whp) Another good match seems to be the T3 Super 60. It is a fact that the T3/T4 is the one for high HP."

I was pointing out that the GT28RS matches the peak efficiency of the TO4E 50 and 54 trims while providing transient response equal to or better than the T3 Super 60.

You can obviously get a big honker of a T4 for more extreme applications but that's not what is generally included in the turbo kits out there. There's a whole lot more options that are all considered a T4, as opposed to the total of exactly one compressor that qualifies as a GT28RS.
