You can't take the key out without the shifter being in Park. Have you tried that or is it not letting you shift into park?
If that doesn't answer the problem. Then I guess you'll have to take apart the shifter to see if something was shorted or removed from a harness :dunno:

I was installing an amplifier and had the key in the ignitoin to test it.. when i went to take it out it wouldn't come out, i wasn't done so i was like ill worry about it later, then i disconnected the battery.. key came right out..
I did have the shifter in "1"
So I'm not sure, maybe shift back to park and try, if your already in park, then I have no idea.

that is true, the shifter has to be in P position, then it'll let u have the key back. I've messed with my jetta when I had it, took apart the whole block only to find my shifter in D.

I had that problem w/ my acura. Maybe it's just that it needs to be adjusted. Take a look at this link.

Key Stuck in 98 Honda Accord Ignition
It's happened twice with mine now, and what worked the last time was rolling the gear shifter through all of the driving modes 2x back and forth, and then the key released.
Good Luck!
