Default 2000 Accord V6 - Ignition Key Stuck

Hey guys, here's a doozie. :crazyr:
I have a problem with the ignition key interlock - there are times (its becoming more and more frequent) that my key will not turn all the way back to the "0" position when I put the car in park. I have to restart the car, run the shifter through the gears, and put it back in park to get it to release the key.

I'm pretty sure the interlock detent solenoid is likey causing the problem, however, I'm at a loss of which component of the system to troubleshoot first. Is it the Shift Interlock Computer, the Shifter Position Switch, The Interlock Solenoid, or something I havent considered? Any ideas, options would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone having the pdf's from alldata, particularly on the shifter recall that was somewhat related, or the service manual pdf's on the subject would also be greatly appreciated, as well as any electrical and system functionality diagrams, or even a troubleshooting guide.

Thanks a lot!
Michael, TX

Ignition recall...check ownerlink to make sure, but that's probably what you need.

I called Honda, they said my VIN isnt subject to any recalls, which I could have told u before - the symptoms are not that I can take the key out while not in park... its opposite - I cant get the key out when I want to!

Please reread what I have written, and any help you can give in this matter is greatly appreciated.

check that the P light on the dash is on when your in park if not then your car doesn't think it's in park thus not relaseing the key .

Did you recently replaced the shift knob on the car or something?
I just replaced the shift knob on my car to a better looking after market one and I get the same problem sometime. What I do is I have to unscrew the knob to loosen it up a little bit cause when the shift rod is pressed down, your key wont turn. I tested it like 100 times cause I was adjusting the height of the knob and thats exactly what it is.
there might be something else inside.

No, stock shifter. Apparently the shifter cable was loose or something. I took it to the dealer, he tightened something down and now it seems fixed. I'll keep ya'll posted if something comes up. I guess the dude that replaced my rear main seal forgot to tighten down the tranny end of the cable and it was misreading the position.

I think this only effects JDM made Honda's, like your Accord Schmiddy, it's still weird you have a 100% JDM-USDM Accord?

The v6 is a Marysville only car.....the ludes are effected I think too.

Default Recall

Yeah i keep up with Honda Worldwide, and yes there is a recall, they try and wait it out at most Honda dealerships and tell yu kno but there is a recall. My cousin in the states has a 98 V6 sedan and he had the same problem , and it was a recall altho they tried to tell him his model and year was not covered hoping to deter him and just shell out the money for them to do it. But he and Others frum the us shop we have called HONDA motor deivision of America and asked and told of teh service at the formention Benson Honda and my cousin was prompted with a Certa number and was told to get his car taken to any available honda to get the problem taken care of. The problem also sffects late 98-00 Acura TL models in america. The problem actually is the tumblers in the key for that interact with the section leading to the locking cylinder.
