Default ignition key lock cylinder stuck

The key is stuck in the "run" position. I had to disconnect the battery and pull the plug wires to turn the engine off.

I've gotten a new lock cylinder and have torn down the column. I'm at the step to remove the old lock but the instructions say to put it in the "on" position to remove the cylinder. I can't do that because it is stuck in "run".

Any ideas? I just need to get the old lock cylinder out so I can put the new one in.

looks like your problems never end young one...have u tried to push the key in while turning a bit...or just jiggle it a bit to see if you can turn it off.

Now trying to install the new lock cylinder, as per the instructions:

Insert the cylinder into the lock housing without the key; make sure that the retaining pin is in contact with the lip of the housing and then insert the key. Rotate the plug to the "on" position, depress the retaining pin and push inward on the lock cylinder.

The problem is that the retaining pin is not exposed so I can't get to it to depress it. I've gotten the new cylinder in there and it works but the key won't come out. So now, I've removed the cylinder and started again but this time with attention to depress the retaining pin that isn't even seen. So now the question is, how do I depress this pin?

Check the new threads. Theres a recall on some accords and ludes for keys getting stuck in ignitions. I dont know what you are driving, so take a look at that just in case it concerns you.
