One of my friends has one on his turbo hatch. About a month or two ago, he accidentally somehow pressed the button to start it, and his car rolled into the street, and got hit by another car, adn ended up in a small ditch. Don't be lazy, or think it's cool. It's just another stupid idea from someone. I don't reccomend it.

what are you trying to say? how can a remote start "make" a person look cool? and how is it lazy? i think it's a luxary to be able to have a warm car in the cold, or a cool car in the heat. and just bekuz your friend got the kind that aint safe, doesn't mean other companies out there are the same

Don't you have to first find a way to defeat the kill switch that won't let you start the car without the clutch being depressed?

how the remote start works is sorta similiar to celica-gts's reply, except not that ghetto. all you gotta do is when the car is on, just take it out the ignition(the engine will still be running), get out of the car, and in 10 seconds it'll arm itself and turn off automatically. also you can add all kinds of options to the alarm system...........i'ma bouts to add on the motion sensor
just some advice.... dont go around tell ppl what kind of security u have h:

Why don't you try living up north for a few weeks without a remote starter so you can freeze your ass off while waiting 5 mins for the car to warm up before taking off. Not fun at all. I would never have a car up here without a remote starter.

Well looks like veryone already answered the question but yes you can install a remote starter on a man. tranny. Your installer will probably have you sign a waiver..(If they are smart) and if you have a really good installer they can hook up a sensor switch that will not allow the car to start if the car is in gear...but most installers will not take the time...Could be as simple as installing a pressure switch around 1st gear area (Or whatever gear you normally leave your car in)....

most legit installers will not install them on a manual transmission car however.

that's not neccessarily true. i got mines installed at one, and i called alot of big name audio stores and they all did it, it just depends on the brand of alarm. of course, they would only install the ones that are ONLY SAFE. i know that compustar and clifford offer the remote start for the manuals. did i mention IDIOT proof? like, it won't start if you're in gear...................

Remote starts are possible on manual trannies and are legal.

what they do is add an extra "valet" switch which you have to activate when you leave the car and if the switch senses the car in gear it will not activate the remote start feature of the alarm.

This is available on all remote start capable alarms (at least all the ones I have seen).
