Remote starts are possible on manual trannies and are legal.
what they do is add an extra "valet" switch which you have to activate when you leave the car and if the switch senses the car in gear it will not activate the remote start feature of the alarm.
This is available on all remote start capable alarms (at least all the ones I have seen).
