Default 0 - 60 time

Should I time myself from 0 - 60 in 2nd gear? I accelerate to about 60mph every morning in 2nd gear climbing this slight hill to work. So should I run all the way to 60 mph in 2nd gear, or should I shift to 3rd?

Do whatever the hell you want. I don't understand what kind of a question this is. Do whatever feels best and your car agrees with best.

all i'm really asking is would i get a better 0-60 time by red-lining 2nd gear? or should I shift at say 50mph or so into 3rd gear.

PS. i whip a 5-spd '97 EX

You should redline every gear or go slightly above it (depending on engine) to achieve the best times.

You tell me where you think you should keep the revs on that engine. Would you shift at 5 grand or would you push it to redline? That's a K20A3, but same concept. I'm kinda surprised that you can't feel it's faster to redline second. Also, each shift will take considerable time off of a 0-60 run (0-60 really doesn't even matter anyway, it's no different than 0-55 or 0-65), that's why car makers try to keep second gear above 62MPH.

Default Kinda OT

Hey that dyno plot, was that your RSX?

Was it stock? That drivetrain is pretty efficient if it was, that looks like a 8% drivetrain loss....I always figured it'd be around 10-15%....

but back on topic...Dump the clutch at 3,000 RPM and redline first and 2nd for the best times..

Naw, I didn't have the money to modify it. That's of an RSX with just an Injen CAI, which results in a gain of about 15WHP...pretty impressive for just an intake. Stock K20A3's put down between 170-175HP, which is in the neighborhood of 12.5-15%.

F22/F23 will rev to about 6400RPM before fuel cutoff (marked at 6300RPM). Red lining it is the best idea.

I can hit 60mph in 2nd gear at 6200RPM on my 1999 Accord, which is vastly quicker than short shifting and losing time doing a shift to 3rd.

By the way, self-timing using a stopwatch is really quite inaccurate.

Doesn't that hurt your engine red lining all the time? I try not to red line, i'd like my engine to last as long as possible

It's actually more hurtful to keep it at low revs all the time. Honda engines are built for redline...they built their internals strong. I wouldn't rev too hard on a GM. but on a Honda? Yes.

Even on an F22B2? I would think maybe on a manual, but it sounds kinda odd for a auto to me.
