Seriously, i think there are over 20 threads about Intakes!
so what. just answer the question and get on w/your life. We all used to be new to this, im sure most of the questions that are asked here aren't the first time someone has asked them:madfawk:

I wouldn't call the resonator removal and drop in filter a "cold air" type system, but it will be better than what you have now. Especially if you go w/K&N filter, just don't expect any noticeable hp gains, you may feel increased throttle response though and the sound will be sweet:thumbup:

Bahahahahahahaha... I love this! As far as I know though, aA Short-Ram Intake really doesn't help that much. It takes the air from right next to your engine, which is hot... if you look closely enough even the Stock Intake takes in cooler air without other mods. And slapping a K&N Cone Filter where your stock box is will help about the same as a Short-Ram Intake. But replacing your stock filter with the same type in the box of a K&N brand... all you might get is cleaner air. If you care about power, and don't we all, buy a damn Full Cold Air Intake. This will send the filter down to the bottom of your car for fresh air, it's the next best thing to the kind that mounts in your freakin' grille. AEM is my favorite brand and you can get a full one for around 200$. But INJEN and DC Sports are also very nice. If your paranoid, get a Bypass Valve (25$), easy to find for the AEM, which makes it about impossible to get any water into your engine, which ****s it up real nice... Basically the bypass valve has openings with flaps around it that let air in when extra pressure is needed to pull air in from the normal filter, which would occur with water getting into it. The bypass valve mounts about mid in the intake piping. So anyways theres my two cents about intakes. And oh yeah. NEVER BUY A CHEAP KNOCKOFF BRAND INTAKE... EVER!!! Sorry about that outburst but omg you loose power! Thanks for reading and good luck!

BTW Elite I love that Brittney Spears Comment! Hats off to you.

are you people stoned? if you remove the resonator and drop in a k&n oem type filter you're pulling air from outside the engine bay, hence the poormans CAI.

The biggest thing you won't benefit from with the "poor mans CAI" is the constant radius tubing. All of the ridges in the stock intake tubing create turbulance which slows down air flow and hence decreses volume. I have the "poor man's" CAI and it is better than stock and arguably as good or better than a short ram.

There are really only 2 things to consider when modding for an intake

Air volume/velocity
Air density

These will be influenced by many factors...

length of tubing - the shorter the better

shape of tubing - fewer ridges and fewer bends are better

CFM capabilities of filter - the more the better

composition of the tubing - ceramic coated aluminum seems to be the best but some companies use plastics for slower heat conductivity. But when it gets hot it stays hot longer.

Density of air - colder is denser and has more oxygen molecules per cubic foot.

I am sure there are other influences but I can't think of many more off the top of my head.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll probably just save up and get an Injen full intake, I just liked the look of short ram as opposed to the full...but it does make sense about just getting hot air.. thanks again..
