are you people stoned? if you remove the resonator and drop in a k&n oem type filter you're pulling air from outside the engine bay, hence the poormans CAI.

The biggest thing you won't benefit from with the "poor mans CAI" is the constant radius tubing. All of the ridges in the stock intake tubing create turbulance which slows down air flow and hence decreses volume. I have the "poor man's" CAI and it is better than stock and arguably as good or better than a short ram.

There are really only 2 things to consider when modding for an intake

Air volume/velocity
Air density

These will be influenced by many factors...

length of tubing - the shorter the better

shape of tubing - fewer ridges and fewer bends are better

CFM capabilities of filter - the more the better

composition of the tubing - ceramic coated aluminum seems to be the best but some companies use plastics for slower heat conductivity. But when it gets hot it stays hot longer.

Density of air - colder is denser and has more oxygen molecules per cubic foot.

I am sure there are other influences but I can't think of many more off the top of my head.
