Default auto vs manual?

my 98 accord needs a new transmission. should i fix it back up with an automatic transmission or should i pay a little more and make it manual? i found some manual transmissions going for $300-400 on car-parts.com

Soooooooooooo Manual:

Benefits

-the Honda manuals (6th gen) are reliable (unlike the autos......)
-Automatics suck?
-MPG
-No tranny fluid replacement (Ok, every 30K miles? lol)
-Chicks dig guys who drive manuals. Ask them. It's true.
-Downshifting a 4-speed auto is weak sauce compared to throwing a manual in 3rd, kickin in the V-tech (even in an I-4) and racing up a hill.
-Jiffy lube will have so much less to jack up when you take it in since they won't be able to powerflush a manual.
-Did I mention auto's suck?

Disadvantages

-can't drive well when shifting and eating/talking on cell/etc. but you shouldn't be doing that crap anyways.
-clutch replacement every 250K miles (I lol at this since that would be about 3 automatic transmissions for a 6th gen)
-other people who don't know how to drive a stick can't drive your car, but this is an advantage in many cases. Frankly, I don't want my wife driving my car.

More Disadvantages Of A Manual Transmission vs. Automatic:

1. You'd have to constantly struggle operating the clutch and shifting those gears in slow, stop-and-go traffic.

2. Cars with automatic transmissions accelerate faster than manual ones. You'd have to really rev up a stick shift car to catch up with an automatic.

3. And yes, it is a pain to be eating or drinking driving a stick shift.

I'd have to disagree with you on that one. Having driven two of the exact same car in both stick and auto, I'm going to have to call :bs:

1. a manual gives you more of a sense of control and a great deal more fun

2. a manual may give you better gas milage

3. I have no trouble drinking, eating, and shifting at the same time -- and with enough experience, juggling things around can be fun

4. but automatics have a better resale value

Diddo there. 2 identical cars, both completely stock, but one manual and one auto. The manual is quicker. Hence 5 gears to go through instead of 4, so quicker acceleration from the 5 speed's gear ratios.

Amen to this. Gotta agree with the convience part but speedwise? Manual will win an auto with equivilant engines.

I believe it's BS on your part. :bs: I've driven stick-shift automobiles for the large part of my life and I know that manual-transmission cars have a hard time, barely even with identical cars, of catching up with automatic ones. You'd have to rev up a manual and shift gears rapidly in order to catch up or pass an automatic.

are you aware that the gearing of manual transmission equipped cars is much more ideal for acceleration and that a skilled operator can shift a manual transmission much faster than a standard automatic transmission? Typically, a manual transmission car can cover the 1/4 mile or do 0-60 10% faster than the same car with an automatic. This is due to gearing, weight, and quicker shifts.

the reason you have to "rev it up" is because the gearing is shorter. it's sort of the point.
