are you aware that the gearing of manual transmission equipped cars is much more ideal for acceleration and that a skilled operator can shift a manual transmission much faster than a standard automatic transmission? Typically, a manual transmission car can cover the 1/4 mile or do 0-60 10% faster than the same car with an automatic. This is due to gearing, weight, and quicker shifts.
the reason you have to "rev it up" is because the gearing is shorter. it's sort of the point.
