Maintenance Required Indicator flashing
MY car have recently reached 77,XXX miles and I know this indicator means that my cars needs tune up. Now instead of going to the shop which I will probably spending $200-$300 if I take my car there, I wanna do it myself to save money. What are the things that I need to look at when replacing part or doing a tune up? I know the SPARK PLUGS, SPARK PLUG WIRES, CLEAN MY FUEL INJECTION?, ROTORS?, PCV Valve(already did it), RESET THE ECU? How? Anything else? This will be my first time, guide me fellows. Thanks

Just do whatever the manual tells you to. I don't think replacing the rotors or plug wires is necessary unless you have problems with them. I believe spark plugs are at 90K but check with the manual. Cleaning fuel injectors is just a matter of dumping some injector cleaner in your gas tank, but frankly, I just let the detergent in gas do the job. I used seafoam once in the tank with no noticable effect. But go ahead if you feel the need. Resetting the ECU, I'm not sure where you got that. I wouldn't do it unless something is jacked up. Frankly, at 77K I wouldn't do much more than a normally scheduled oil change and replace anything that may be scheduled as well that you're not sure got done (assuming you bought the car used, if you bought it new you should have done those other things already). Really, there isn't much before 90-100K that I'd touch unless you notice a problem. What kind of mileage are you getting? I have a a 6th gen with a 4 banger and a 5-speed. If you're getting over 30MPG, chances are you're fairly well tuned up already, if not, I'd tune her up a bit, or quit hitting VTEC all the time.
Resetting that maintence-required reminder isn't the same as resetting the ECU. You don't need to reset the ECU unless somthing specific is going on, like check-engine lamps. Take a look at the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual & look for when most of that stuff was last done.
Reset maint.req. lamp (1998+):
- Turn off the car
- Press & hold the odometer-reset button
- Turn key to 'ON' while still holding that button
- Continue holding that button for about 20 seconds
(lamp will eventually flash a few times & go out)
Reset ECU ('98-'02):
- Turn off the car
- Remove fuse #13 from fusebox in right-side of dashboard (near door hinge)
There's not much to do for your car, other than fluid changes.
- Get new engine air filter & cabin air filters.
- Get fresh brake fluid every 2 years.
- Fresh antifreeze every 2 years, except factory fill should last 3 or 4.
- Spark timing is not adjustable.
- Adjust valve clearances "whenever they make noise"(?!?)
- New spark plugs at around 100k miles?
- New timing belt at around 90k miles?

there isnt much to a tuneup anymore.. do u mean rotor button not brake rotors? u can change the rotor button and cap when u need plug wires. unless u do alot of starts u may want to change the rotor button and cap. i wouldnt wait 100,000mi to change plugs they may not come out. they r a cheap replacement. i change my antifreeze every 2 yrs and transmission fluid every year. some people tend to forget the pcv valve. if u need to rotate your tires or change your wiper blades this may be a good time. i tend to change the air filter, wiper blades and rotate the tires together every 6 months.

to reset the indicator hold down the long button coming out of the gauges (the one on the right side is eather the dimer or the reset)then turn on the key wait 10-20 seconds the maint minder will go out and stay out till the next oil change is due 3000 miles.the 75k servise incudels all that you have listed + a valve adjust the spec for the ex and intake valve lash is under your hood on a small stiker(if you dont know how to ajust valves reply back)and drain and fill on the trans m/t or a/t.also pollen filter thay filter in coming air into the cabin(flush your money down the jon) thay are not needed badly and will not help the engine at all.
Negative, Jim. J-series engines use hydraulic roller finger followers and never need adjustment.
edit: Nevermind, he has the F23
h: You're going to want to buy a Helms service manual if you're good with tools or take it to a shop to have them adjusted.
