Default VTEC activation

I have a 2k2 v6 cpe, never really pushed the car too hard, 5k rpm is the max i ever went...

I wonder if VTEC was ever engaged...
How do I tell the difference when VTEC is activated?
What is the easiet way to test? should I stay on 2nd or 3rd gear when i accelerate?

Vtec kicks in at 3500rpm in the Accord V6. If your car is broken in then you should take your car to Max Throttle and extend it through the gears. You need to blow the carbon out every once in a while and keep your engine healthy. You should be able to hear and or feel VTEC kick in when you extend the car past 3500rpm. Intake really increases the sound and feel of VTEC.

Well if I just floor the pedal it revs like a mad dog but i thought that was just downshifting automatically (>3.5k rpm)
how would I tell the difference between downshifting and VTEC engagement?

VTEC engages in all gear ranges from about 3500 rpm! If your driving in fourth gear at 50mph and you floor it, chances are your tranny will drop to second, where VTEC engages. If your in the high area of your RPM, youre VTEC'n it.

A good way to find your VTEC engagement point is to drive your car in D1 from a stop. Don't floor it, but don't coast either. Even in your stock engine, you should be able to hear the engine tone change. In addition, since you are not flooring it, your car will push a little when VTEC kicks in. Have fun. Remember to shift into D2.

so my experiment would be:
roll down my windows, turn off the stereo, start from D1, listen to the engine at around 3500rpm?

This thread is full of BS. J30A VTEC kicks in at 3500, you can feel it very easily but hearing it is kinda hard. Indicator lights are quite stupid. if you're above 3500 RPMs, VTEC is actuated. That's all you wanted to know. Don't get drawn in. You can feel when VTEC is actuated, it just takes experience.

6gens kick in at about 4k....RSX is right, you can definately feel it if you're in tune with your car, SOHC or DOHC. I can hear it well because of the intake.
