VTEC engages in all gear ranges from about 3500 rpm! If your driving in fourth gear at 50mph and you floor it, chances are your tranny will drop to second, where VTEC engages. If your in the high area of your RPM, youre VTEC'n it.
A good way to find your VTEC engagement point is to drive your car in D1 from a stop. Don't floor it, but don't coast either. Even in your stock engine, you should be able to hear the engine tone change. In addition, since you are not flooring it, your car will push a little when VTEC kicks in. Have fun. Remember to shift into D2.
